Reducing excess days and increasing throughput at the busiest trauma center in Ohio
OhioHealth is based in Columbus, Ohio, and boasts 15 hospitals and 35,000 associates, physicians, and volunteers. Its Level I Trauma Center at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center is the busiest in the state. 60,000 people are admitted to their emergency departments annually, and OhioHealth takes the experience of every patient at the hospital seriously. They needed a way to become more efficient so they could continue to improve patient care for the communities they serve.
Prior to working with Qventus, discharges at OhioHealth were time consuming and inefficient because they were relying solely on their EHR for case management and discharge planning. It was nearly impossible to identify what was impacting their LOS.
OhioHealth came to Qventus with three specific goals:
- Improve discharge planning efficiency without disrupting their team’s workflow
- Reduce LOS
- Increase capacity for community care
About the Qventus Inpatient Solution
In hospitals around the country, care teams are juggling incredibly complex care plans for patients in various stages of the discharge process with outdated, manual processes. It’s like being an air traffic controller who doesn’t know where three-quarters of their planes are, when they’re scheduled to land, or what maintenance needs to be done before they can take off again. What are the odds even a single flight takes off on time?
Our Inpatient Solution uses real-time data and locally trained AI models to help make sure the right patients are getting the right care at the right time–moving them closer to a timely discharge that frees up space for patients in need of care.
Real ROI from the Qventus Inpatient Solution
Within six months of our Inpatient Solution launching, Ohio Health realized a significant increase in discharge volume, saving 8,554 excess hospital days, annualized. That’s thousands of people receiving more efficient care and getting home earlier. In addition to the increased efficiency, OhioHealth recognized meaningful cost savings. You can see the actual ROI metrics that Qventus drove for OhioHealth in our case study.
Prioritizing the patient
Our Inpatient Solution helps increase capacity and reduce LOS, empowers care teams to take action to meet the most pressing patient needs, and improves the patient experience by discharging patients as soon as they’re ready and able to go home. And the downstream effects are significant–we’re reducing ED boarding rates, which have a real and significant impact on patient outcomes, especially among the elderly.
“With the Qventus Inpatient Solution, we’ve reduced the length of stay for patients significantly, resulting not only in significant financial savings but also increased access to care,” says Scott Estep, System Vice President, Nursing Operations & Capacity Management at OhioHealth.
